Canon EOS 7D
The Canon EOS 7D is Canon’s top of the range APS-C camera – it is a very high end DSLR and the only single-digital model with an APS-C-sized sensor. The APS-C format smaller than full frame, is larger than 16mm film and provides more control over depth-of-field than high end video and film movie cameras.
Its predecessors are the 1000D, 450D and 500D. It sits just below the EOS 5D Mark II in the range, offering full HD video functionality. The 7D has the same size image sensor as cameras such as the 500D, Nikon D5000 or Pentax K-x.
The body of the EOS 7D with the exception of the memory card and battery doors – is made from tough-feeling magnesium alloy covered in thick, tactile rubber; making the 7D easy to hold.
The high resolution makes it perfect for capturing landscapes and portraits. The camera swanks an 8 frames per second shooting speed at full 18 megapixel resolution.
The EOS 7D offers full HD movie shooting and full manual control over the exposure, with the option of using the auto movie exposure. Unlike the EOS 5D Mark II the EOS 7D offers the ability to change the frame rates at which movies are shot offering up to 30 frames per second.
The AF sensor’s coverage is similar to the sensor of the EOS 50D but has 10 extra AF points for greater flexibility.
The Canon EOS 7D costs approximately $1800 and is available from retailers such as Amazon.com, Best Buy and Dell.
